Let's start off by saying "yes". Social media is a job in itself. Most business owners rely on social media to get word out with little to no marketing budget. It's a recipe that needs to be tailored to each business and their industry for it to be effective.
Creating content, knowing your audience and when to post can be all time consuming. This all requires time and space for creative minds and planning.
Learning your audience is key and at times hard to understand as social media can be a vague and general audience and more so if you are building one. Learning what to post to engage an audience is another task that is part of social media marketing.
Another one would be what to post? Holiday post, personal life posts, encouragement post, your product sales, daily life posts, or funny memes? The list goes on . What type of post? Video, reel or photo? The amount of options on the different platforms with different audiences can be tedious and overwhelming.
The great thing about social media is that it's free until you start paying. You do need to understand how to use it and what each audience relates to in each platform and how to allocate budgets accordingly.
You also have to want to be and enjoy being in front of the camera. I honestly pick the days I want to be in front of it so I can ensure I pass along good vibes to the audience.
Every platform has their rules for posting and also you find out sooner or later what the audience wants to see. The key is not only posting but also making posts that make your audience engage and adding personal touches that makes them feel they know you and your brand. Is there a recipe to the madness? Yes!
I find most accounts post a lot of what's perfect and looks best. I like to post what's real and you should post what speak to you and your brand. That will attract the right following; even if it takes longer.
I find these days social media can be so overwhelming and so time consuming. From keeping up with stories, posts, and constantly checking who liked, tagging and hash tags. Lastly, due to so much focus on it; for reasons of staying "in the know" our society is defining a good person/business by how many likes and or followers they have.
Don't let this fool you. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs; care little for social media and keep most of their lives private. Social media like anything else is a means; use it wisely.
